To merge PDF files, drop all the PDFs into the tool above, arrange them with the up and down buttons so they appear in the order you want, and click Merge. You download one combined PDF. Pages are copied exactly as they are, so text stays selectable and there is no loss of quality. Password-protected files must be unlocked first.
How to use the Merge PDF tool
- 1
Add the PDFs
Drag up to 50 PDF files onto the tool, or select them from your device. You can add files in several batches.
- 2
Set the order
Reorder the files with the up and down buttons. The document at the top supplies the first pages of the merged PDF.
- 3
Merge
Click Merge. The pages of every file are copied in sequence into one new document, locally in your browser.
- 4
Download the result
Save the combined PDF. If you need to adjust it afterwards, rotate pages with Rotate PDF or remove some with Split PDF.
How to put merged PDF pages in the right order
The merged file follows the list exactly: every page of the first file, then every page of the second, and so on. Pages within each file keep their original order. Before clicking Merge, read down the list once and use the up and down buttons to fix anything out of place; it is quicker than splitting and re-merging later.
If you need to interleave pages from different files, for example placing a signed page from one PDF in the middle of another, split the documents first. Use Split PDF to cut the main document at the right point, then merge the pieces with the extra page in between.
Naming files with a leading number before you add them (01-cover.pdf, 02-report.pdf) also makes the order easy to check at a glance.
What is preserved, and what may not carry over
The tool is built with pdf-lib and copies each page object as it is. Pages are not turned into images or redrawn, so text stays selectable and searchable, vector graphics stay sharp at any zoom, and embedded images keep their original quality. Because nothing is re-encoded, merging does not make your documents look worse.
There are limits. Encrypted or password-protected PDFs cannot be merged; open them in a reader where you have the password and save an unprotected copy first. Bookmarks (the outline panel some PDFs have) and interactive form fields from the source files may not be carried over into the merged document. If you need to fill in a form, do that and save or flatten it before merging.
Merging joins documents; it does not compress them, so expect the merged file to be about as large as its parts combined.
Combine PDFs without uploading them to a website
Merging is often done right before sending something important: a job application with CV and certificates, a loan file with payslips and bank statements, a contract with its annexes. Those are exactly the files you may not want to upload to an unknown server.
With this tool the merge runs as JavaScript in your own browser tab. Your PDFs are not uploaded to Krawly, no copy is stored, and closing the tab discards everything. It works on desktop and mobile browsers, it is free, and the result carries no watermark.
Tips for the best results
- Remove passwords from protected PDFs before adding them; encrypted files cannot be merged.
- Fill in and save any PDF forms before merging, since form fields may not survive.
- Number your file names beforehand so the merge order is easy to check.
- Need to merge photos or scans that are images? Convert them with JPG to PDF first.
- Large documents take longer on phones; for very large merges a desktop browser is more comfortable.
Frequently asked questions
How do I merge PDF files into one?
Drop the PDFs into the tool on this page, use the up and down buttons to set their order, and click Merge. You get a single PDF containing all the pages in that order. It is free, needs no account and the files are processed in your browser instead of on a server.
How many PDFs can I merge at once?
Up to 50 PDF files per merge. Individual PDFs of up to around 200 MB are supported, though speed depends on your device, since all the work is done by your browser.
Can I merge password-protected PDFs?
No. Encrypted or password-protected PDFs cannot be merged. Open the file in a PDF reader using its password, save a copy without protection, and then add that copy to the merge. The tool does not remove or bypass passwords.
Will merging PDFs reduce quality or make text unselectable?
No. Pages are copied as they are rather than re-rendered, so text remains selectable and searchable, vector graphics stay sharp and images keep their original quality. The merged PDF looks the same as the source files.
Are bookmarks and form fields kept when merging?
Not reliably. Bookmarks (the document outline) and interactive form fields from the source PDFs may not be carried over. The visible page content is preserved, so fill in and save forms before merging if the entries matter.
Is it safe to merge confidential PDFs online with this tool?
The PDFs never leave your device. The merge runs locally in your browser using pdf-lib, nothing is uploaded to Krawly's servers and nothing is stored. Once you close the tab, only the file you downloaded remains.
Private by design. Every Krawly converter runs inside your browser using JavaScript and WebAssembly. Your files are not uploaded, stored or seen by anyone — when you close the tab, they are gone.
