Quick answer

To rotate a PDF, drop the file into the tool above, choose 90° clockwise, 180° or 90° counter-clockwise, and apply it to all pages or only the pages you list, such as 1, 3-4. Check the thumbnail preview, then click Rotate and download. The rotation is saved in the file, so it stays fixed in every PDF viewer.

How to use the Rotate PDF tool

  1. 1

    Load the PDF

Drag a PDF onto the tool or choose it from your device. A thumbnail preview of the first pages appears so you can see which ones need turning.

  2. 2

    Pick the angle

    Choose 90° clockwise, 180° for upside-down pages, or 90° counter-clockwise.

  3. 3

    Choose which pages

Rotate all pages, or enter only the affected ones using commas and ranges, for example 2, 5-6.

  4. 4

    Rotate and save

Click Rotate and download the corrected PDF. The original file on your device is not modified.

How lossless PDF rotation works

Every page in a PDF can carry a rotation setting that tells viewers how to display it, in steps of 90 degrees. This tool changes only that setting. The page content itself (text, vector drawings, embedded images) is not touched or redrawn, so there is no quality loss and text remains selectable.

This is different from rotating a page in a viewer's toolbar, which usually changes the view only for that session. Here the new orientation is written into the saved PDF, so it opens the right way up for anyone, in any reader, on any device.

Rotation is applied to the page as a whole. You cannot turn a single image or paragraph inside a page, or rotate by an angle like 45 degrees; the PDF rotation setting only supports quarter turns.

Fixing scanned documents with mixed orientation

Scanners and phone scanning apps often get orientation wrong. A landscape spreadsheet printed sideways ends up rotated, a page fed upside down comes out inverted, and a multi-page scan can contain a mix of both. Rotating the whole file would fix some pages and break others.

That is why you can target specific pages. Look at the preview, note which pages are wrong and in which direction, then run the tool once per direction: for example 90° clockwise for pages 3 and 7, then load the result again and apply 180° to page 10. Each pass only affects the pages you list.

Your document is rotated locally, not on a server

Scanned files that need rotating are often the sensitive ones: signed agreements, tax papers, ID copies, delivery notes with customer addresses. With this tool, the PDF is opened and edited by pdf-lib inside your browser. It is never uploaded to Krawly and no copy is kept after you close the tab.

There is nothing to install and no account to create, and it works the same on a laptop or a phone. The downloaded PDF has no watermark and is otherwise identical to the original apart from the orientation of the pages you chose.

Tips for the best results

  • Use 180° for pages that were scanned upside down; one pass fixes them.
  • Pages needing different directions? Rotate one group, then load the result and rotate the next group.
  • Encrypted PDFs are not supported, so remove the password before rotating.
  • After rotating, combine the corrected file with others using Merge PDF if needed.

Frequently asked questions

How do I rotate a PDF and save it permanently?

Drop the PDF into this tool, choose the rotation angle and which pages to turn, then click Rotate and download. The new orientation is written into the file itself, so the pages display correctly in every PDF viewer, not just in your current session.

Can I rotate a single page of a PDF?

Yes. Instead of rotating all pages, enter the page number you want to turn, such as 4, or a list like 1, 3-4. Only those pages change; the rest of the document keeps its current orientation.

Does rotating a PDF reduce its quality?

No. Only the page's rotation setting is changed. The text, images and graphics are not re-rendered or re-compressed, so the content is exactly as before and text stays selectable. Only the direction in which each chosen page is displayed changes.

Which rotation angles are available?

You can rotate pages 90° clockwise, 180°, or 90° counter-clockwise. PDF page rotation works in quarter turns, so angles such as 45° are not possible. For pages that need straightening by a few degrees, the scan itself would need to be corrected.

Can I rotate a password-protected PDF?

No, encrypted PDFs are not supported. Open the file with its password in a PDF reader, save an unprotected copy and rotate that copy instead. Your original protected file is left exactly as it was.

Is my PDF uploaded when I rotate it?

No. The rotation is done locally in your browser using pdf-lib. The file is not sent to Krawly's servers or stored anywhere, and everything is cleared when you close the tab.

Private by design. Every Krawly converter runs inside your browser using JavaScript and WebAssembly. Your files are not uploaded, stored or seen by anyone — when you close the tab, they are gone.
